Oxidase‐type C‐H/C‐H Coupling Using an Isoquinoline‐Derived Organic Photocatalyst

Oxidase-type oxidation is an attractive strategy in organic synthesis due to the use of O2 as terminal oxidant. Organic photocatalysis can effect metal-free oxidase chemistry. Nevertheless, current methods are limited reaction scope, possibly lack suitable photocatalysts. Here we report isoquinoline-derived diaryl ketone-type photocatalyst, which has much enhanced absorption blue and visible light compared conventional ketones. This photocatalyst enables dehydrogenative cross-coupling heteroarenes with unactivated activated alkanes well aldehydes using air A wide range heterocycles various functional groups substrates. Transient excited-state quenching experiments point unconventional mechanism that involves excited state “self-quenching” process generate N-radical cation form sensitizer, subsequently abstracts a hydrogen atom from alkane substrate yield reactive alkyl radical.
